Please be advised that when departing from locations situated below Athinai TMA, such as private heliports, landing sites, or airports like LGMG and you intend to transition through Class G airspace (which extends up to 1000′ AGL), your flight must remain entirely within Class G airspace for the duration of that phase unless of course there is a major operational reason.

For example, if your destination lies within the Cycladic Islands or any other region reachable without entering controlled airspace, your route must be planned and executed wholly within Class G, unless you receive clearance to enter Athinai TMA. It is crucial to remember that Athinai TMA is designated as Class D airspace, where entry is not permitted without explicit and confirmed ATC authorization.

A concerning trend has been observed where some pilots requesting departure clearances at low altitudes such as 500′ AGL purportedly to avoid frequency congestion or delays, only to then request to climb above 1000; AGL shortly after departure or, in some cases, proceed to climb without obtaining the necessary clearance. This practice is not only unethical, but it also undermines the safety and coordination of all airspace users. It places undue burden on ATC and can lead to airspace conflicts, especially in high traffic airspaces.

We urge all pilots to act with full awareness of the broader operational picture. Helicopter operations, particularly during the summer season, are already subject to high traffic, complex routing constraints, and limited frequency availability. Any deviation from proper procedures affects not only your flight but the safety, efficiency, and scheduling of many others operating in the area.
